3. In Deleuze and Guattari’s (1987) A Thousand Plateaus, the term “rhizomatics” appears as a process that makes connections via structures which are strata and not arboreal. This “growth” of linkages is a highly flexible and mobile type of investigative paradigm in that the surprising and often unforeseen consequences of its operations lead to the dissolution of its former parts, rather than a strengthening of its hegemony. This works in this chapter through the connectivity with educational ideology, and the way in which the teacher’s body may be used to understand the power complexes that have gathered around the actual physical presence of the teacher in the classroom, such as multiliteracies.
